Carnatic (Karnatik) Flute

Pulangoil, Venu, Karnatic flute, Pullanguzhal are various names given to this unique eight-hole south Indian flute. The tonic, Sa, of Carnatic flute is at two holes down and Pa, the fifth, is at 5 holes covered.

World Flutes

A result of several years of conceptualizing, researching and experimenting - finally here are three new innovative design of flutes with exciting new sounds, scales and ways of playing. The first ever of their kind.

The earliest discovered extant musical instrument is said to be about 43000 years old and it is a flute! So it is quite imaginable that over the ages many many varied types of flutes would have been invented. And indeed they were - as Dizi in China, Ney in the middle east, Bansuri in India, Shakuhachi in Japan, Kaval in Bulgaria, Fujara in Slovakia...the list goes on. All with their own unique sounds, tunings and ways of playing.

In my 40 years or so of playing around with flutes, its been an exciting journey for me to hear and play many kinds of flutes. In the last few years, through joyful toying with various mechanisms of sound excitation, tonal coloration and tunings, I have come up with some really neat and innovative designs of flutes. I am presenting three of these wonderful designs here - the first ever of their kind.

Should you have any questions about ordering any of these new design of flutes, please contact me through the contact form.

BAANS-PEUL

baans-Peul Flute
Tuning reference A = 440Hz
Baans Peul
Inspired by Tambin / Peul flute of west Africa. Unique design sporting a wax-bamboo composite mouthpiece. Available in traditional Peul tuning and semi-chromatic/chromatic tuning.

VAJRA

Vajra Bansuri
Tuning reference A = 440Hz
Baans Peul
Instead of the regular side blown design of bansuri this is an end blown instrument. The result is a denser/darker tone with richer harmonics, a more relaxed arm position/grip and body mechanics.
